Tickets to see this year's Fall Play production of Our Town go on sale today. Please help and support your fellow advanced theatre thespians by coming to watch our performance.
Our Town is a three-act spectacular revealing the haunting story behind the town's citizens and their tragic deaths. The late Emily Webb, ready to relive her valuable moments all over again, is overwhelmed by what she sees as her wish comes true. The story progresses through the soft-spoken words of the Stage Manager, describing how life goes from young and beautiful to aged and melancholy in an instance. A philosophical and emotional play that delves into the meaning of life which everyone in the audience can experience.

Students choose one of the two days and will check in at room 401 (Drama Room)

Students should report to room 401 at 3:45 for check in and then will proceed to the Cheer Room/Foyer. All students must do the dance audition as well as the vocal audition. Dance auditions are divided into two groups: Those with dance experience and those who have no dance experience whatsoever. It's fun and stress free!

Callback students report to Room 401. Callbacks will be posted online and at the door by lunch time.
*** Remember, you are required to go to both vocal and dance audition days.***
This year's Fall Play, Twelve Angry Jurors, is almost here!
With talented performers consisting of students from Advanced Theatre, you are in for a good deal of entertainment. The play will start at either 3:30 PM or 7:00 PM on November 9 and 10. Tickets are available online or at the box office by the auditorium. Please come and support our actors and actresses!
There will not be a Drama Club meeting during lunch this Wednesday. However there will be a Halloween Party after school from 2:35 to 3:30, please do attend. The Drama Room will be open only to officers during the lunch period, volunteered helping is not needed or necessary.
In order to be admitted, please sign your name on the list with the food item you are bringing. This is a potluck so only those bringing food will be allowed in. If you bring food but you did not sign up, you will NOT be admitted. There is limited space so officers are estimating how many seats are needed according to the sign up list, be sure to sign up! You can bring a party sized entree, two bags of candy, or two bottles/boxes of soda. Please keep in mind of what others are bringing, we do not want too many of the same things!
There will be a handful of activities for party guests. Bowling, fortune telling, and so much more!
There will also be a costume contest, bring in your costumes. If necessary, bring in a reference image for the judges. There will be four winners and you could be one of them!
We hope to see all of you there!
In this week's meeting, we had our first Drama Club Workshop: Musical 101. Simply put, it's a brief workshop that explains the basics that students must know before this year's musical starts:
- What Les Miserables is all about
- The difference between a musical and a play
- How to select an audition song
- Who to ask for help
- Special dates to remember
- And a preview of what rehearsals will be like!
Drama Club Officers are planning to schedule more workshops in the future, be sure to keep coming back to know when those events will happen.
Today's Drama Club meeting was a wonderful meeting, thank you to every member who came in during lunch today. We hope to see you throughout the year and at performance shows!
First order of business, we introduced the 2012-2013 Drama Club Officers. You can view their bios under the 'Drama Club' tab.
Next up, we discussed Drama Club Donations. Donations are optional but they help us out tremendously. Donating from $25 up to $40 will grant you many perks including free costume rentals, free admission to Drama Banquet, and lunch space for those hot or rainy days!
Then we discussed about upcoming holiday parties and asked members for their input. Our holiday parties include: the Halloween party, the Christmas party (Secret Santa), LoveFest, and our newest idea: Bunny Hunt!
After that, we watched a trailer of the upcoming film production of Les Miserables. The trailer can be viewed here.
We asked members if they would rather do two days or one day for the Disneyland trip, the reason we are asking this is because we are having certain concerns about pricing and we needed to know if members are willing to pay more to have two days at the park or not.
Next, we announced that the official date for the theatre's construction completion.
Finally, we wrapped the meeting up with a fun game of Improv, the newcomers certainly have a skill in acting!
Get ready to kick start your new year of high school by becoming a member of the Drama Club. We are a club that specializes in the fine performing arts such as musicals and plays. Have an interest in performing arts, music, and/or acting? If so, please join us at our first meeting of the year and bring a friend. A new year means new members, be prepared to meet several new members who all share the same passion as you do.
The first meeting starts during lunch on 9/12 in room 403.
We hope to see you there!
This week, members voted for their favorites for Actor/Tech awards and Drama Club Officers of 2012-2013. Winners and selected officers will be announced at Drama Banquet.
Lauren Cernik-Price is inviting all Drama Club members to come watch Carlsbad High School's production of 'The Phantom of the Opera'. Tickets cost $15 each, two tickets for $25. Carpool drivers are needed. If you think you can carpool for our fellow members to the production, please notify us in the Drama room during lunch or after school.
Drama Banquet is getting closer! The banquet is hosted on 6/1. Anyone who has already paid their $25 Drama donations will receive free admission. Members must write down the names of people they are bringing to the banquet on the Drama Club Board. Any others who wish to attend must pay $5 for admission. Drama Banquet includes dinner and an awards ceremony where we will offer awards to those who have submitted their Drama Club points, the selected winners for the Actor/Tech awards, the Drama Club officers for 2012-2013, and also announce next year's musical production.
At this brief meeting, we discussed several upcoming events: Officer elections (5/2), Actor/Tech Awards (5/2), Drama Festival (5/19), and Drama Banquet (6/1).
We also passed out officer application forms. To pick one up and apply to be an officer for the 2012-2013 school year, visit the Drama room and talk to Mr. Kriley or ask any officer during lunch.
Point sheets were passed out if they were returned to Veronica Murray. Complete and return them ASAP to make sure you get your letter, pin, or medallion at the banquet!
First, we'd like to apologize for the lack of updates! We've been so busy, but we're back now with an open stage and new opportunities! Keep reading!

Drama Club is attending City College's production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, featuring lighting design by alumnus Eileen Rodriguez this Friday the 13th. Next Friday, we intend on attending Montgomery High School's production of Little Shop of Horrors. We'll let you know how the shows go--but we really hope to see you there!
The Drama Club's Festival show will be "And Then There Were None...Except Two", a spoof of Agatha Christie's murder mystery. The cast has been selected and we excitedly await May 19th! See you there!
Just have to see this year's show? Then wait no more!...for tickets anyway. They've just become available to purchase on the POTO page on-site. Tickets are $10 each for evening performances and $8 for matinee showings. This year is the first with reserved seating, so be sure to purchase your tickets as soon as possible to ensure your party can sit together and will have a place to sit at all!
In order to purchase tickets online, simply visit the Phantom page and click the "Buy Tickets Now!" link. Choose your preferred date and time and you'll be sent to a map of the theatre. Select the green seats you'd like to purchase and proceed with the on-screen instructions to complete the transaction.
Alternatively, you may purchase tickets at the box office every day from 2:30 to 3 PM every weekday. You will be guided by our box office attendant and will similarly be able to select your seats.
Students will no longer be able to issue tickets, but we hope we've facilitated your ticket purchasing by offering the two options. Get your tickets before they sell out and we'll see you at the show!
Here are some announcements done rapid-fire!
- Remember to pay your $40 for the musical costuming
- Those who have paid their $25 for Drama Club can sign up for a free club t-shirt!
- Sign up for the Valentine's Day Card Exchange and Lovefest
- Pay your $50 deposit for the Musical Theatre Disneyland trip! It was due today, so get on that ASAP if you haven't already.
- NYC trip-goers: your final check is due February 15th!
- Bios for the musical are due on the 14th of this month!
- Ensemble Members must be off-book by February 13th while leads are expected to be off-book by February 17.
This meeting we did a make up workshop led by Stage Manager and make-up head, Gaby Perez. She helped everyone who didn't know their color find their shade of foundation and gave a set of ground rules regarding make up. They include:
- Use one sponge per day. No sharing sponges!
- Be courteous with the foundation. Return it to the appropriate place and do not leave it lying around.
- Apply make up as needed--it's not a toy. Don't waste!
- Foundation may be done by yourself, but other things (especially unique character faces) should be done by designated make up artists. Talk to Gaby if you have any doubt.
Ana Niebla, costumes head, followed up with some guidelines on dressing room etiquette:
- Don't leave your things on the floor! Return your items to your given bag.
- Don't leave belongings on the table or risk them being misplaced or possibly stolen.
- Don't take others' items if you cannot find yours. Find the clothes that were issued to you. Don't leave a shred of doubt.
If you have questions, ask one of these heads and you'll most definitely get all of your questions answered!
It's that time of year again! With Valentine's Day right around the corner, it's time to start thinking about scenes for the annual Love Fest! This past meeting, Kevin Phan reintroduced the Love Fest concept: take a scene from a movie, play, tv show, or anything else published (sorry, no songs) and act it out on stage. You can use as many performers as needed, as long as it fits the topic of love. Whether you decide to do your scene about puppy love, the first date, breakups, or marriage, it's got to be great! Performances will begin on February 15th at lunch and will continue to the 16th as necessary. Sign up on the Drama Club board in room 401 to save a spot!
Another tradition is to pass our Valentine's Day cards among your drama club friends. This is an optional event and will be held on the 14th of February. If you sign up for the exchange, you must prepare something for every participant! To enter, sign up on the board in room 401.
Lastly, we announced the coming of Drama Club T-shirts! If you paid your donation to Drama Club, then you will receive a free T-shirt. In order to receive it, you must sign your name and list your shirt size in room 401 on the club board. Do so ASAP or you risk not getting a shirt. If you're in Technical Theatre, your $25 donation does not cover your club shirt since it paid for the tech shirt you received. To obtain a club shirt, you must pay an additional $10.
We also took this meeting to remind you guys to pay your $25 donation to Drama Club. If you're in the musical, the donation minimum for costumes/other disposables is $40. For more information or concerns, talk to Mr. Kriley.
The first drama club meeting of the year! Feels good, doesn't it?
We announced just a few things this week:
Spots for the NYC trip this coming Spring have been re-opened! If you are interested in attending for a DISCOUNTED price, talk to Mr. Kriley ASAP!
This is your reminder to post your conflicts on the Phantom Resources page (talk to an officer or other Drama Club member for the password), check the schedule that has been posted, and pay the $40 costume fee. You are not required to pay, but if you don't, you will either have to get your own costumes that have been approved by Mr. Kriley or rent them from us at much higher rates.
Finally, we posted a list of etiquette and guidelines to follow during rehearsals. Please check the Phantom Resources page for the PowerPoint!
Hey guys! Hope you've all had a refreshing vacation because we're about ready to jump right in on rehearsals! The entire schedule will be posted on the website soon, but here's what this week looks like:
Tuesday (Music) Wednesday (Character/Blocking), Thursday (Music): 2:30 - 4:30 PM
Saturday (Dance): 10 AM - 1 PM
See you all tomorrow!
This meeting was the second in our three-part saga of holiday cheer! The $5 Secret Santa presents were exchanged and there wasn't a scrooge in sight. Be sure to bring your $10 gift on Friday to help kick off the winter break.
New York City participants, be sure to turn in your next payment ASAP! The checks will not be sent to Junior Tours until Saturday, but you should send in the payment before we leave for vacation. Talk to Mr. Kriley if you have any questions.
Thursday, December 15th is the date of the MMHS Choir Concert. Support our fellow performing artists by purchasing a ticket and attending their concert at 7 PM. General admission tickets are $7 and are available online and at the box office as usual, from 2:30 to 3 PM. The box office will also be open prior to the show for at-the-door ticket sales.
Don't forget to bring a food item to the holiday party this Friday, December 16th! Officers will be bringing main dishes, so bring your favorite snacks, desserts, beverages, or whatever else to celebrate the end of the year with your fellow thespians. See you there!
